Data collection and software

LISTEN...

The energy advisor conducting the blower door test on a building can hook up their laptop or mobile device to the sensor unit, to collect data and incorporate it into energy modelling software.

The blower door manufacturer will usually have a companion software for their particular unit.

WHAT IS THE COLLECTED INFORMATION USED FOR?

The blower door testing process and data collection informs the energy model and design requirements for assemblies and systems in the building.

This includes building envelope details, mechanical systems, windows and doors and hot water heating. The Energy Efficiency section of the building code, Part 9.36.5 gives instructions for doing the following as part of the testing process:

  • Complying with the EnerGuide Rating System,
  • Calculating area and volume for conditioned spaces in the building,
  • Calculating annual energy consumption for systems such as:
    • Space heating,
    • Ventilation,
    • Service Water Heating, and...
    • Space Cooling.
  • Calculating heat transfer through above and below ground assemblies, windows, doors and skylights.
